The film deals with the forgotten history and experience of Austro-Hungarian soldiers who were prisoners of war in Russian Turkestan from 1914 to 1920. It shows traces, places of stay and work of POWs in Khujand (Tajikistan) and Southern Kyrgyzstan, interviews with local inhabitants and historians in these places as well as descendents of POWs in Austria. It also uses memoirs, diaries, letters and photographs as well as historic documents and postcards.

The film is part of the research, film and exhibition project „SPURENSUCHE TURKESTAN“ (Searching for traces of Austrian POWs in Russian Turkestan 1914-1920)
